Jerks OFF!
Privacy Policy
Jerks OFF! changes webpages on your device. It is designed so that the content you browse is not part of its cloud data.
Effective and last updated: September 16, 2026
Scope
This policy covers the Jerks OFF! browser extension, its containing apps for iPhone, iPad, and Mac, and this website. In this policy, “we” means the operator of Jerks OFF!.
What stays on your device
Jerks OFF! needs access to webpages you authorize so it can find and transform configured names, text, and images. That processing happens on your device. We do not automatically collect or transmit your browsing history, the addresses or contents of pages you visit, or the transformation results to Firebase, Rollbar, or our support mailbox.
Your settings are stored locally first. They include site policies, transformation preferences, names and nicknames you add, personal style declarations, and disposable nickname-rotation history. If you deliberately add a hostname to an allowed or blocked site list, that hostname becomes part of your settings and may synchronize through Firebase Cloud Firestore.
Information processed by cloud services
Account and synchronized settings
Firebase Authentication creates an anonymous account identifier when Jerks OFF! first needs cloud synchronization. If you choose an email account, Firebase also processes your email address and password for authentication. Jerks OFF! does not store your password.
Firebase Cloud Firestore stores two documents under your account identifier: general app preferences and Jerk preferences. This allows settings to synchronize across your signed-in devices. Cloud data is authoritative after a device reconnects.
Privacy-filtered diagnostics
When a qualifying extension error occurs, Jerks OFF! may send Rollbar a deliberately limited technical report. It can contain the app version and build target, execution context, a categorized operation and error, timestamp, and extension-owned code locations. The reporting path rejects or sanitizes unrestricted messages and non-extension stack frames.
Diagnostic reports do not include passwords, email addresses, Firebase account identifiers, webpage addresses or content, user settings, or user-entered names and styles.
Ordinary network information
As with most online services, Firebase Hosting, Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Rollbar, and email infrastructure may receive ordinary connection information such as an IP address, browser or device metadata, and request time in order to deliver, secure, and operate their services.
How information is used
We use the information described above only to:
- authenticate accounts and synchronize user-selected settings;
- provide and secure the extension and its supporting services;
- diagnose bounded technical failures and improve reliability;
- respond to support requests initiated by you; and
- comply with applicable legal obligations.
We do not sell personal information. Jerks OFF! does not contain advertising and does not use personal information for cross-app tracking or targeted advertising.
Service providers and disclosure
We use Google Firebase for authentication, synchronized settings, hosting, and account-cleanup functions, and Rollbar for privacy-filtered error diagnostics. These providers process information on our behalf under their own service terms and privacy commitments. You can review Firebase privacy and security information and Rollbar’s privacy policy.
We may disclose information if required by law or reasonably necessary to protect users, the public, or the security and integrity of Jerks OFF!. We do not otherwise share personal information with third parties for their own marketing.
Apple separately processes App Store purchases and related account information under Apple’s policies. Jerks OFF! does not receive your payment-card details.
Retention and deletion
- Email accounts and synchronized settings: retained while the account exists, unless deletion is required sooner.
- Inactive anonymous accounts: scheduled for deletion after 90 days without a Firebase ID-token refresh. Active anonymous accounts are not deleted merely because they are old.
- Diagnostics: retained for a limited operational period under the Rollbar project configuration.
- Support messages: retained as reasonably necessary to resolve the request, maintain support records, prevent abuse, and satisfy legal obligations.
Email-account users can choose Options > Account > Delete account and cloud data. This deletes the Firebase Authentication user, schedules deletion of that account’s Firestore subtree, resets the current browser to defaults, and creates a fresh anonymous identity when possible.
Other devices may retain local caches until Jerks OFF! is opened, reset, or removed on those devices. Uninstalling Jerks OFF! removes its data from that device but does not by itself delete a linked email account or its synchronized cloud data.
Your choices
- Use anonymous mode instead of linking an email address.
- Control Safari or Chrome website access through your browser settings.
- Change or delete locally stored preferences in Jerks OFF! Options.
- Change your email or password, request a password reset, or delete your email account through the Account section.
- Contact us about access, correction, deletion, or another privacy request.
Children
Jerks OFF! is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us so we can investigate and delete it where appropriate.
International processing
Our service providers may process information in the United States and other countries. Privacy and data-protection laws in those locations may differ from those where you live.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy when the product, its service providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be described through an appropriate product or website notice.
